Took off the front tires and the pads look easily replaced, but they don't need them. I have about 7mm of pad left. On to the rear during lunch. I have not been in their before on this vehicle (97 F350). I assume they are drum and have not worked on drums.
I've always pulled taken the tire off and slipped the drum off. I'll have to look in my shop manual and see if they have any different advice.... its probably time to check mine anyway
Hi bri-
One thing to consider is to only tackle one side at a time, so you can work on one and use the other as a model if you run in to trouble. Also pay attention to the shoes , front shoe and rear shoe may be different lengths (front & rear on the same back wheel).
Brake spring tools are a big help and really cut down on the band-aid costs.
Aerosol brake cleaner is a big help, don't breathe the black dust, check drums for cracks, no better time to clean it than while it is apart, now is also the time to paint the OUTSIDE of your drums if you want to,....
Good recommendations especially since I have not done drums before. I'll go get the brake tools. Hopefully they are OK, cause I really don't want to *have* to do them before I take off for a long weekend, but best to be safe since I'll be pulling the little camper in the hills.
Hopefully my power bleeder will work sweet on the beast as well.
