I recently bought a 1993 f-150 5.0L 4x2 subercab and have a wierd quirk I was hoping someone could help me with. when I put the air conditioner on "Max" and am at Idle or very low speed it works fine, but whenever i am accelerating or anything over 15 MPH it will divert to the defroster vents. Any Help would be greatly appreciated
on the passanger side near the firewall on top of the compressor is a small device with an arm (back)going into it and a white tube (front)coming out of it, the tube is broken off about 3 inches from the device and turns to powder when i touch it. Is this the vacuum? if not any clue what it is? and where is the tube supposed to connect, i can't find the other end of it
Thanks
Had that problem on my '93. I attached a length of appropriately sized vacuum hose to each end of the plastic tubing and it has worked fine. I do remember that on mine, the plastic tubing, as it gets closer to the firewall, is covered by protective tape. That might make the fix a little harder, otherwise it's an easy repair.
ok, I still can't find where it is supposed to go, it goes through the firewall, but where?
On a side note tinkering with my truck noticed a line that i didn't recognize, traced it back and this things set up to run on propane too(tanks been removed, but replace that, reinstall/find the fuel cutoff switch and it should be good to go) SWEET!
I assume it goes through the firewall however, I was fortunate in that I could still see both ends of the tubing. The end nearest the firewall is wrapped with tape around some other wiring/tubing.
found it, it had broken off inside the wrapped section, bought vacuum tube, and will see if it works tommorrow splicing, or if i need to replace the whole tube
