My 03 blew hot then cold, hot then cold, 5 times in and could not be fixed, filed complaint with Ford board, lemon laws gotme a new car. Do a search, long thread on this issue with my car. No problem with my 04.
I've fixed a few of these now. The TXV (thermostatic expansion valve) in the rear A/C unit leaks causing the refrigerant to escape and the A/C to not cool.
To find the leak the trim panel over the rear A/C unit needs to be removed and then there will probably be oil puddled under the TXV. Replacing the part is easy after the trim panel is removed.
Just had my 03' EB "C" build date in for the same thing. Bought truck last June and never any A/C problems. This year the first time I went to use it (93 degree day of course) it blew warm.
Turns out the entire system was EMPTY of freon. They could not find any obvious leaks and refilled and added dye. I have to use and see what happens and the dye will tell them where the leak is.
They did say that they have seen some that actually come from the factory empty but this is not the case here as I used it last year.
Not much help to you but interesting that all of a sudden yours is dead too.
Im surprized they got by with adding dye and recharging. Ford adds dye straight from the factory and adding dye should not be necessary at all. Like Racerguy I have found a few with the rear expansion block leaking which you wont find unless you look for it.
