Red face No Cruise Control

My Dad's 95 F150 Cruise control stopped working AGAIN. Last year I replaced the "ribbon" connector in the steering wheel and everything worked great until a month ago. I have checked the fuses and relays, both good. Since I just replaced the ribbon last year I can't believe it is that, besides the horn still works, where it did not when it broke before. I pulled the connector on the servo checking for corrosion and found the connect cavity was full of a light oil. similiar to compressor oil. Is the servo motor oil filled? How can I check the servo for function? Any help is appreciatedd, as always.

Question 87 F150 Cruise Control

Purchased my truck a few years back and the CC never did work right. Once activated it continues to speed up. Have let it get as high as 75 then stop it by either touching the brake or hitting the cancel button. Any ideas or suggestion what should be replaced or checked?

Basically the way you check the servo is to check every thing else. If every thing else is ok than it's the servo. This is a lot easier than it sounds. Every thing can be checked at the servo connector. Even the ribbon cable you replaced last year. You will need a multimeter to do the checks. If you do a search on cruise control you should find the procedure has already been discussed.

The servo is not filled with oil. I've had one apart.

Where do I find this procedure? I did a search and all I could find was a procedure to check a mid 80's.

The fluid you found was brake fluid. It was filled by drawing the fluid up through the wiring from a leaking cruise control deactivation switch mounted on the master cylinder via electrolysis. You need to replace the deactivation switch and thoroughly clean out all the brake fluid from the servo, servo connector and the deactivation switch connector. If nothing got shorted out then you should be able to restore full operation. Be sure to check the brake light fuse and circuit as well.
