A Reminder: Bronco Coolness

This past November there was a pretty big snowstorm in the West Virginia area. There was about 8 inches of snow on the ground, and that shuts down just about everything in WV... except 4 wheeling

I have a STOCK 91 Bronco 302 with 217,000 miles on it at the time. I was running some 31x9.50 BFGoodrich AllTerrains on it.

Basically I went running around just about every field I could find with 4 people along for the ride (something you couldn't do in a Jeep). I was basically using the Bronco for all it was worth for 3 hours of fast-paced offroading. I used every skidplate and every inch of my stock suspension. And after 3 hours of pounding on a suspension and drivetrain with 217,000 miles on it... NOTHING BROKE.

The coolest thing was that I drove from WV to Austin, Texas 2 weeks later, and my adventures didn't even knock my alignment out. (I'm sure I would notice going 70-75mph for 3000 miles round trip).

In another off-roading adventure since I got back... I hit a tree at 10-15 mph. Yep... nothing happened to the front bumper. I mean, this truck is completely insane.

So now I am up to 222,500 miles with no major work besides power steering a long time ago. The 302 block doesn't burn any oil whatsoever. The tranny has had a main-seal leak for about 80,000 miles, however, no problems have resulted yet. All I can say is that I can't see a VW Toureg or a Chevy Trailblazer holding up through all this... much less at ~220,000 miles.

Enjoy your Broncos... its worth keeping them through all the emissions and tranny problems.
