This has been one of the finest oil's i have had the pleasure of using! It controls burnoff much better than any other that i have used in the past.
And boy will it clean the engine out.

It might decrease it but it can’t stop it. Diesel oil is not a magic fix all.

I run rotella T in my 2000 PSD, and have run it in my big trucks for 10 yrs, I had one engine break at 489,000 miles it was determined to be a defective piston, and the engine was replaced by detroit but other than the depris from the piston the inside of the engine was spotless, I had a big cam cummins that I bought used but according to the records that were kept had always had rotella in it, and had the overhead ran at 800,000 miles, and the heads were spotless absolutly no sludge at all not even alittle, that engine burned 1 gal at 7000miles, and I changed the oil at 21,000. so I like it and will stay with it. just my 2cents worth
never used it in any of my gas engines so can't give an opinion there

You should switch to the diesel 15w40, the heavier oil will help somewhat with blowby. It also is good for freeing stuck rings, which is usually a big part of blowby.

What's the price difference on the Diesel oils vs 'gas' oil?

Can I run the 15W40 over winter, or will it be too thick? I don't know if I want to switch now - I won't put enough miles on before winter, and I don't want it to be TOO thick...

OK guys, I don't normally dig up old posts but being it's already been done, here's my question. I was surprised to read that some use Rotella in their gassers. I looked at the specs of my Rotella bottles and it claims a SL rating, the same as so called , car oils. Why is there a trend of "diesel oil,"- "car oil" ? I understand why a diesel oil is formulated for diesels but why do we need another type of oil for our gassers? It's sure not a cheaper price because Rotella is about the least expensive oil on the market. I use Rotella in my PSD and Castrol straight 30 in my cars and PU trucks. We have no cold weather in the Phoneix area. I think it would be an advantage to use one oil, Rotella 15-40 in everything... Any input from you oil guys??......Thanks....

PS. The wife has a '85 Olds Park Ave. 3.8, V-6...

Jerry, the difference between oil for gas engines and diesels is the additive package. Most, but not all , diesel oils have a significantly larger additive package that also includes anti-foaming agents. It is the additive package that may disqualify an oil for gas usage. Point:, there may be an abundance of the additive ZDDP which is basically Zinc and Phosphorus. Both are claimed to play havoc on emmissions systems. Should the gas engine using this type of oil be run at short intervals or in an environment prone to making condensation in the engine, the additive package will have the tendency to cook off with the condensate. These metals will destroy the cat converter on your engine. Rotella has a low enough amount of ZDDP to qualify it for usage in gas engines. There are other anti-wear, EP additves on the market that are used in its place such as calcium.

I'd look for a 10w30 diesel oil Saurian. I know it gets below 0F in Iowa, and I dont think a 15w40 would cut it on those cold mornings. I get Mystik JT-8 at Blains Farm & Fleet in Cedar Falls, Iowa. The closest store to you is in Muscatine. I know they'll have the 10w30. If you can find it closer, great.

We use Rotella in everything for years. We became tired of stocking different oils. We run 10w-40 TSB (semi-syn 20 liter pails.) in the warmer weather and switch to 0W-30 in the winter. I am in Ontario Canada which is cold in the winter. I am in Florida on business a couple of times in the winter. Our 2000PSD Ex is the runner and I have noticed that on the 0W-30 it will use about 1 1/2 quarts on a round trip south of about 4,200 miles. In the summer on 10W-40 maybe 1/2 a qt. on the same milage. The EX has 235,000km. on it.
The 5W-40, 0W-40 Rotella full synthetic is a good upgrade.

Rotella used in PSD, 5.4 gas, Kubota diesel, Koler V-twin gas,350 V8 Merc cruiser.
