Recently lifted my truck and had it geared within 2 weeks of eachother. In between, I had a custom driveshaft made with a C.V. joint added just behind the carrier bearing. Now just 1000 miles later, I hear a noise around 65 mph. It is not there when i'm On IT, but if i let the engine slow me down, it almost feels like drive line vibration. Spoke with the driveline shop, they said the driveshaft is balanced nice and tight. Do you think the gearsa could cause this noise????
what does the angle of your rear axle pinion look like? if it is not perfectly in line it will usually cause a vibe. i have never hear of gerars causing a vibe...i dont think it can happen. also what does the angle of the rear d/s behind the t-case look like? that can also be a problem....I know you said carrier bearing so i am assuming it is perfect but ya never know! sure it's not the tires?
also make sure your front hubs are not locked in or your t-case is in 2wd or our front d/s could be the culprit!
I'm getting a slight vibration with my new shaft too, but I think it's because when I put it in I wasn't very exact about getting the carrier bearing bolted in directly centered behind the t-case yoke so it might not be runing true down the centerline of the truck.
After taking all the angles and writing them down for the shop, I found the spline at the rear slip joint to have a bit too much play. Will find out more tomorrow. Apparently any play at this location is bad.
The truck hubs are not locking up when they are not supposed too, the alignment is good, and the tires were SS 37's, now Goodyear MTr's. My feeling is the rear slip joint.
