I have been trying to decide whether to buy a supercab or supercrew. I have a wife and 2 kids, one daughter 8 years old and a son 13 years old. He's getting pretty tall and want to see which truck would offer me the best deal for the long term. We take a lot of long trips and know that I'll be driving the new truck. Thanks in advance for the info and I look forward to hearing from you!
Well, I opted for the supercab but now kind of wish I had gotten the supercrew.
Why, you ask?
Not for the extra space... not because of the way direction the doors open........
But so I could fit the damn thing in my garage!
The 6.5' bed paired with the supercab is actually the longest '04 you're going to commonly find.
(Excluding the occasional 8' bed).
Anyway, point being, it's actually longer than the supercrew with the 5.5' bed.
Its a truck. Dont forget that. You will need that extra space in the bed at times. The supercab has enough room to remain comfortable. I would say, SuperCab, 6.5' bed. My opinion.
I had a 2001 supercrew and should be getting my 04 supercrew any day. I mainly haul pallets but ocassionally haul sheet rock, plywood, or a Polaris ATV in the bed. Yes it would be nice to be able to close the tailgate when hauling my ATV but the conveniance of the supercrew when you have two kids like I do is well worth having to leave the tailgate down. I would have a hard time going back to an extended cab after owning a supercrew!

Good point but it really comes down to how the individual uses the truck. If they really need the longer bed or more room in the cab. For me I use the extra cab room and towing capabilities most. To put bigger stuff in the bed I just use a bed extender.
I don't want to hurt anyones feelings about the SuperCab. However, for me the SuperCab doors on all models are a hassle in tight spaces. I went from a GMC SuperCab to a Yukon SUV to my new F150 SuperCrew. Now, I have the best of all worlds.
See if you can drive each for a day or so with the family and to the normal places with tight parking, etc. I think you will make up your mind better that way.
I'm very happy with my Supercab. Actually I was looking at a reg cab, but the wife brought up her future intentions of having a family and the supercab came home. Personally, the rear is large enough for 3 adults and I love having the full size bed. The Supercrews are a little better when it's raining. You only have to have 1 door open, I really hate getting my interior wet.
I have two kids and a wife. I have owned both SCrew (2) and SCab (3). SuperCrew works best for me and my needs. Plenty of room and convenience for the kids when traveling, especially with the optional air-through console. I don't think the bed length is a big consideration for most people. I frequently load up 6' and 8' lumber, 4' x 8' plywood/siding sheets, and all sorts of other things. I fold the tailgate down, flip over the extender, and, if necessary for 8' stuff, pile the load on top of it. The extender also provides a convenient place to tie-off too.
With a growing family I would go for the Screw, I like the look of my Scab better but for practicality the Screw sounds like it will work out better for you if you do a lot of long trips. Either way I think you win, its a really nice truck, what trim level are you looking at?
I'm a Builder-Carpenter and for me I like the scab because I don't have a door to go around when searching for something in the back seat area. Also I could only get the 133" wheelbase in this model and that is what I like best about this truck..
