what exactly is wrong with it? Does it just blow cold or hot air? First step i would take is to pull off the center dash and check your blend switch to make sure that it is changing the voltage readings.
Richard
Richard it blows cold some time then hot ,i did check the actuator motor and it does move but not the door .It seems that the blend door is broke and opens and closes as to as you stop and go.i just need to find out how to get to it to replace .
Thanks George
I've got a similar issue with my 98. Mine either blows all cold or all hot...no blend. When I turn the selector ****, there is no resistance until about tdc and then it gets a little hard to turn and all of a sudden it's like it busts loose and turns real freely the rest of the way.
I've not looked...do you access the equipment by removing the middle of the dash?
97 f150..base 2 dr.4.2 automatic...Ok...air blows cold then sounds as if door in dash closes or moves then blows hot. Turn it off wait a few seconds and air blows cold. For no apparent reason it changes. Seems to do this often in stop and go traffic. Worse time of course. Thanks for comments.

On my 97 I had to go through the glove box. Dorman has the instruction open the link above and scroll down.
Edit make sure you look up your year make and model.
The doors stick and end up breaking the tab off that turns them
The Dorman chop up the box procedure sure is easier
I pull the dash and HVAC case to replace them the Ford way, depending on the client
My Dr, for instance, I did his right
Good luck

Never did like the way Ford built the box around the door and they wonder why mechanics and engineers get into once in a while I would do it like you on a nice truck but not my 97 beater
I take back what I said in post #8. I would go through the glove box every time no need to open the AC lines. That box is a pain in the as*.. It works just as good as taking the whole box off if you seal it back up well. And I would NEVER use Fords door. Dormans is far better imho. Good video JON that is the one I used when I changed mine.
I have to agree, and it was Ford that built the door that warps and sticks anyway (hell the cases warp too)
The hack job sure looks unsightly, but 10 more hours of labor is over 1000
I have done them both ways (several times) I may never pull another dash, after I explain the cost difference to my clients
I have used both a cutoff wheel and a hot butter knife that I heat with a Mapp gas torch
Is the blend door actuator responsible for the vent setting? My vents will only blow air out to the windshield but will change temperature if I adjust it just not the vent position
