Lets say I am getting on the highway and I romped on the gas. It will shift though the gears fine, untill over drive. When it would shift into over drive, it would make a slight jerking feeling (like anti lock brakes) And then shifts into over drive fine. It only seems to do this with over drive, and when I floor the gas.. The rest of the time, it is 100% fine.
What would cause this? Should I be worryed and take it into the shop and pay 500 bucks to get this fixed?
Before you do anything expensive, go to NAPA and get a tube of Shudder Stop (may not be the exact name) Your complaint is a common one couple ounces of this stuff usually fixes it. I did mine about six months ago and the problem has not returned.
When was the last time your fluid was replaced? If it wasn't recently, don't waste money on a tranny fluid additive. Replace all the fluid. Instruction on how to do that can be found elsewhere on this forum. On the Aerostar forum it is referred to as a gentle flush and the methods involved are the same for your vehicle. It is often amazing what new fluid can do. IF it is a torque converter problem, an additive may mask it for a while, but sooner or later, the torque converter will either completely fail, or produce excessive heat and bake the rest of the tranny.
