tried to put my buddies wheels onto my truck yesterday. he has a 99 ext cab long bed 250 diesel. I have my 04 5.4 250 regular cab. Wheels of course fit right on being 8 lug 180mm. I have steel wheels with the regular lugs, so i tried to fit his tapered lugs on. turned out, the thread pitch was distinctly different. Anyone know when this happened? his said 14-2, but my 2004 definatly had a finer pitch. didnt find anythign on this after a search.
Yep - I ran into this when I was getting tires and wheels for my truck. I was told they switched some time in '02. Old thread pattern is 14mmX2.0 and the new is 14mmX1.5 - so if you're ordering/getting new lug nuts make sure you know first!
yea. i figured it was 14-1.5 that was what it looked like. seems like a strange thing for them to change. o well, guess someone had these lugs/studs for a penny less. hey, that would be 32 cents a truck!!!
I ran into the same problem. The lug nuts are like $3 a piece from the dealer and I could not find them anywhere else. I bought a 14x2 tap $12(thats my pattern) and tapped all the lugnuts (priceless). In 03 they still had both threads according to what the dealer told me. Musta been the crossover stage.
