2004 Power Stroke X

I just purchased a new 2004 Excursion, the build date is 5/04, will this diesel engine have similiar problems as the earlier 03 / 04's I have since read about? I've never owned a truck or SUV before let alone a diesel. I bought the X because other than VW, this was the only available Diesel SUV. (Almost made a big mistake and bought the gas guzzling H2) I was amazed how high and safe I felt during the test drive. Here in Southern NJ, Diesel fuel is $1.59 a gallon compared to $2.29 a gallon for gas. Why is Diesel fuel so cheap in comparison to gas? Thanks.

I'm not sure, but I think it's because you get to diesel before you get to gas in the refining process. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

Around here - West Virginia panhandle - diesel usually costs about 5 cents more in winter probably because diesel and heating oil are really the same.

As for diesel less than gas now I wouldn't be suprised if some of the reason for diesel costing less is political. I wonder how the streets of Washington, DC would look loaded with 18 wheelers if diesel prices rose as much as gas.

during the manufacturing process, you get more diesel fuel per barrel of crude than gas. Gasoline also has a more lengthy refinement process.

Thanks, now it makes sense. One more question, can you use a remote starter on a diesel engine? Like I said, I'm new to diesel engines and appreciate any and all info.

Sure you can. Ford as well as many other manufacturers make great security systems and remote starters. I'm thinking about getting one myself.
