Golf Question:

I am making a trip to Richmond, Va. later this month with my 2 brothers and we would like to play golf while we're there. We are flying USAir and I would like to know the best way to ship my golf clubs. Does anyone have any experience with flying golf clubs? Do the airlines have rules on how to pack them? Do I need to buy one of those special "hard plastic shipping bags"? I don't travel much so I don't want to make to big a deal out of it.

It isn't that big a deal.
Get yourself a soft or hard cover to seal them up with a lock.

Just make sure you arrive in plenty of time to make sure they go on the same plane you do.

One time mine arrived home 9 hours after I did.

If you don't travel much, then you ought to ask a buddy to lend you his travel bag. Alternatively, if you don't have really expensive equipment, you don't even have to use a special bag, just put a hood on your bag and go.

I've got a few of the travel covers, all of them the soft variety. If you do go out and purchase a new one, don't spend too much unless you plan on changing your travel habits.

Is the soft cover a bag that seals your entire golf bag or is it just a "top" to put over the bag to keep the clubs from falling out?

if your clubs are valuable...get a hard case...my brother's driver got broken during one trip...i've seen clubs being thrown like suitcases before...but i've also seen some being given extra care

A soft cover is like a sports duffle bag,the golf bag w/clubs lays right inside the whole thing then you zip it up & lock it.
I don't trust anyone at airports.

I even take a pic of them & luggage with the digital when they are on the conveyor belt.
