It's been over thirty years sinse I've done any serious hunting, so I'm sure things have changed some. My actual question doesn't have to do with hunting, but scents and lures. I've got an old storage shed out on my property that I hardly ever use. The other day I was in it and descovered that some kids have been using it to hang out in. I was young once, I think, so I pretty much know what they have been up to. Personally I don't really care what they do as long as they don't damage anything. But if one of them gets hurt, I'm sure their parents would rather sue me than control their kids. What I'm looking for is the foulest smelling stuff I can get, just to make them stay out of the shed. I want something that will knock a buzzard off a s*it-wagon. Thanks for the help.
Carry a a shovel and a 5 gallon plastic bucket in your trunk or truck bed when you are driving around. Next time you see a road killed coon or groundhog (better yet, a skunk if you are lucky), scoop it into the bucket. It ought to get real ripe in a hurry and once you are fairly sure the kids have stopped hanging in your shed, you can remove it.
I think if you use liquid scents or sprays, they'll get into the wood surfaces and linger for a long time after your problem is solved.
Just an opinion.
Or, you could booby trap the door with a bucket of something nasty, yet harmless and soak the next person to creep in there. That would be a hoot! And it would sure put a damper on whatever activity was planned for that evening.
Is your property posted (properly...per state regs)? If so that (should) cover you. Can you lock the shed? Do you know the kids? Do you know their parents? I agree that any thing you spray might soak in and linger, but a dead critterrotting away will linger too. Seems to me that it would be alot easier to confront the kids NOW and tell them to go play somewhere else. If there smoking and doing stuff like that you just might have a burnt shed or worse.
Just my $.02..................
i agree with lenny on the TINKs. they make a scent bomb which you can open, hang, then close when you're done. i'd hang a couple of those in there out of site, that way when you're done you can just close them back up and let it air out. shouldn't linger too long. or you could just do something to scare the ***** out of them like make them think they see a ghost or zombie at night. definitely something worth videotaping
Doe urine is bad, but looses its potency after a day, The foulest thing you can probably do, is take a dozen eggs, and let them sit out their and rot, get nice a mushey, that'll stink it up. Should last you a couple of weeks to.
You may also want to leave them a note. Something like, "I've seen you get into my shed, next time, I'll follow you home and tell your parents what you've been doing. I'm watching you". They may think it's BS, but it could scare them off.
Regarding the road kill, leave it by the door so they see it along with a note.
Thanks for all the suggestions. I guess I'll just get a couple of bottles of Doe-n-heat, and sprinkle it around. The road-kill will just attract other critters. I don't mind the smell. I just keep a tractor and stuff out there. I'm pretty sure I know what they are up to out there. I was young myself, once. It's just the liability that worries me. Thanks again for the response.
I agree that hunting scents prolly won't do the trick, they'll work for a few days, but start to lose their smell after a lil while. I'd go with somethin rotting...
if you wanted to catch them in person, you could buy one of them motion cameras that some hunters use to see if deer or other wildlife are moving in their hunting areas. as long as there was someplace by the shed you could conceal it.
