A few months ago my grandad bought 2 manual lock out 4X4 hubs from Autozone. They said he had a lifetime warranty as long as he owned the truck. A month later they started messing up. They would not stay locked in. He took them back to Autozone to get his money back. They would not give him his money. They said the warranty had expired. They asked if he wanted to go ahead and get his shocks and starter for his lawn mower. He said to keep them, he didn't ever want anything else from Autozone. He went to O'reilly's and got his stuff. He asked the person there if they would do him like another company did by saying a lifetime warranty expired in 2 months. The pereson said no. Then, another person there said kind of quietly to the person, "Autozone".
the kid behind the counter at the autozone i used to go to here tried to tell me i didn't need a 180 degree t-stat because all the t-stat does is control how fast the motor gets up to temp. not what the motor runs at. haha. i didn't have time to give a t-stat lesson so i just left.
O'Reilly's has always treated me better. I only go to autozone for convenience... when I need some little part that I'm not worried about. They can find parts faster than O'Reilly's... but if it comes down to a part that matters, O'Reilly's is the place to go.
I don't know about other Autozones, but the ones here change hands a LOT. I don't think I've ever seen the same staff on hand from one month to the next... I think that has a lot to do with their quality of service. Did the same person who sold him the hubs tell him that the warranty had expired?
They started messing after one month !!!
I dunno what the consumer rights are in the States , but here, good's must be "fit for the purpose for which they were intended" and something messing up after a month is hardly fit for the purpose they were intended...by law you would be entitled to a full refund in Ireland ....
Id kick up hell and the rest ..
Money is hard to come by , no way id let that go , no way ..
if you complain to them enough, they'll give you your money back (or at least give you credit... then you can get cheap crap like relays and lightbulbs from them for the rest of your life...)
Everytime I have bought something at Autozone with a lifetime warranty, the warranty is printed on the receipt, along with it's restrictions. It is also kept on file in the store's computer system.
I was just in Autozone today. I bought a mityvac pump. As I was waiting at the counter to have a couple parts looked up, the guy comes over and says, "What."
Not, "How can I help you," or "What do you need today," or even, "How's it going?"
Just, "What."
So I made him look up a bunch of obscure parts for me, then changed my mind and told him I didn't want them.
Any one notice that auto zones uses disapearing INK on there lifetime
sales receipt! Just something Ive notice when its time to use the lifetime
warranty!
P.s Its also disapearing on the normal receipts to.
Also lifetime parts are the same ones as regular ones, its how many of them
you will need in a lifetime!

LOL we dont have o'riellys here we have pep boys, auto zone, napa , and strauss stores. I go to napa first then to pep boys to strauss and finallyt to autozone if its a DIRE emeregency. I tell the people in strauss they are bad but at least its not autozone. Heck i wouldnt send my mother in law to autozone those people are the absolute biggest morons
From my travels all Autozones are like that. It's a good thing they have a lifetime warranty on their products because as cheap as they are made you are definately going to be replacing it soon!
Hers an example....I called Autozone today for a price on a radial arm bushing. He repeatsback to me, sounding all confused...."a radial arm bushing?" Then I asked him if he had the washer that goes on the bottom of the front coil springs. He didnt know, he asked around......and found that they did not carr that washer.....I'm still on the hunt.
Autozone and Advanced both use those thermal printer receipts that fade with time. I usually write the vital info on the receipt with a good pen. I find most of the counter guys to be morons. There are a few guys that I like to deal with. One of my favorites is Vern at my Local Advanced Auto Parts store. I won't go into Oreilley's anymore, I have one about 4 blocks from my home. I will drive 3 miles to go to Advanced, Napa, or Carquest, (all within a few blocks of each other) or 10 miles to AutoZone.
Yesterday, the alternator went out on the Bronco. Removed it and took it down to Autozone and told the kid I needed a new one. He asked if I wanted the 1 year for $36 or the lifetime for $54. I said to go cheap. While we were comparing old to new I figured I better have the old one checked on the machine, just to be sure. It was bad, but during the process I told the kid it would be nice to get the lifetime one, but I would just lose the receipt. He said I don't need a receipt any more, it's on the computer now. I asked him to check on this one and sure enough, a couple years ago I'd bought the lifetime one - he went to get a lifetime alternator and handed it over. I almost wasted $36. I noticed that I have 4 other items with lifetimes on the computer down there. I should probably write them down, so I know.
