i am thinking about keeping the straight axle and doing the mono leaf springs and toyota streering box conversion .what i need to know is can someone tell me does this really handle descent ? the truck will have a 302 with auto trans . and will be a daily driver. will this work out allright . need to know from someone that has been there done that and were you satisfied or not .thank you for your time on this.
I have a friend who put the mono leaf front springs on his 56. The springs lowered it but the ride was way stiffer then the stock springs. You may want to think about fewer leafs and reversed eyes.
I don't know anybody who has done the toyota steering box.
I did the toyota steering box and it was very simple..just have to fabricate or buy the parts from Mid-Fifty or BobsF100....It only took about an hour tops....(I WORKED fast and FURIOUS)....I just put the original springs on my front end (ebay purchase) and it jacked my stanced so I would recommend the reverse eyes or mono-leafs....
just be sure to remove the bump stops if u use mono's. i did the short stack but it seemed soft, so i used the load carrier coilovers for a 93 f150 4x4 front. seems to be ok now. i had to make top brackets yet, but it will do,
yeah i have the bump stops and she is riding better (not bottoming out like before) but she is too tall in the front now....even with the rear and the rake is off now....going to the spring shop to get some modification done to them.... :-)
