I have a 1995 Ford Explorer XLT 4 door. I'm wondering if I can put a snowplow on it. It would be for personal use not commercial. If yes, what does anyone recommend? If not, why? Thanks.

First off, i think theyll move this to the explorer forum.
But to answer your question, i believe there are kits available for rangers/explorers.
I personally wouldnt recommend doing this if this is your daily driver. You will need to beef up your suspension to handle the added weight. This will be very uncomfortable in the many months that you dont have the blade attached. Im sure some will not agree with me, but the explorers and rangers were not meant for the abuse that a blade puts on a rig.
I've had 20+ years of plowing in vehicles ranging from "old style" Broncos to F-250 3/4 ton pickups. My advice is to use the Explorer for what it was designed for -- getting from point "A" to point "B". They were not designed to push Point A over to Point B. If you really want to get serious about plowing find a 3/4 ton or larger vehicle and have at it. Even if you have the right vehicle you can still break stuff if you aren't careful and try to bite off more than your vehicle can handle. If you have a short driveway a snowblower can do a great job and they come in various sizes. You can also put the snow exactly where you want it with a blower. I've had snowblowers as long as I've had plows and actually use the blowers more than the plow. The only thing that I miss when using the snow blower is that warm cab.
Thanks to all for your advice...I have a 900' driveway and thought a snowplow on the Explorer would be a good idea...but from what I've read, it's not. My 17 hp lawn tractor with snowblower attachment works just fine. The few times I've had it plowed the mounds of snow just take up too much space and take forever to melt. The snowblower is just what I need.

about 20 years ago my dad had got a wheel horse lawn tractor to blow the driveway. It was about the same size as yours. He said if he could do it again he would just get a used plow truck. You can spend around the same dollars for a lawnmower with the snowblower set up as you would for a used plow truck. Then it will take you more than an hour to clear that amount with a blower. The plus side of a used truck is you can use it for other things. Or as long as you don't take it of the property don't even worry about plates.
