On The Way Home From Work This Morning I Heard/felt A Thump In The Front End Just As I Left. It Was Rythmic And Appeared To Be On The Drivers Side. I Stopped And Checked The Front Driveshaft And It Appeared That The Crappy Auto Hubs Were Somehow Locked. I Tried Backing Up To Release Them, But In Another Block I Heard/felt The Same Violent Thump. It Felt As If The Hub Was Engaging And Releasing. Does This Sound Like An Accurate Diagnosis? Brakes Appear Fine And No Other Obvious Signs, Ie: Axles, U-joints.. Plans Are Already In The Works For Warn Prems, But Hope It's Just The Autos Taking A Crap...any Ideas? 93' F-250 Ttb Front..
have to make an assumeption here as you didn't mention one way or another but this is doing this on smooth surface? then yea I would take a guess that it is the auto hubs had some in an 86 that did that when I first bought it, found that the grease hadn't been changed in awhile, and was pretty thick I didn't even try, and fix it just replaced the hubs with manuels, and repacked the front wheel bearing, and the problem went away. If this si happening apon going over a bump then it is a different problem,
Yep, Was On The Asphault Crawlin' Away From Work. I'd Planned On Replacing The Auto's, But Hoped That They Would Last Until I Could The Hubs And Get The Job Done. The Only Way I Could Describe The Clunk Was Like "popping The Clutch", But Only On The Front End.
ok if it keeps doing it and you can't get it to unlock I have found that the best way to free a stuck hub is to tap it (liberally but not to the point of breaking ther hub cap...maybe bending just a hair?!?!). alot of times it will get stuck and a few small taps will free it right up, just like a jammed starter/solenoid!
Changing The Auto's To Warn Premiums Asap. The Parts Listed Show A 19 Spline For Regular And A 30 Spline For Hd Suspension. The Truck Is An Xlt And Not An Hd Model. Do You Think The 19 Spliners Are The Correct Part? I Found A Company Online (gowarn) That Has A Set For Less Than $90.00. Cheapest I've Seen Recently Is $143.00, So I'd Like To Order Them But Want To Get The Correct Ones. And I'm Not In A Position To Remove The Hub And Count. (tools Are 40mi From The Truck) Thanks Guys..
just to be sure I counted the splines on the hubs for my 86 F150, and they are the 19spl and it was a xlt (not that it makes alot of difference) long box, I think the 30spl are for the F350s but you should be go to go with the 19spl
hope that helps
Was Reading Up And Found That Vehicles With Gvwr Of 8600+ Are Hd Suspension. The Hd Is Supposed To Have The 30 Splines. Mine Has Gvwr Of 8600 W/460 Eng. It's A Guessing Game Until I Actually Count Them. Wish There Was An Easy Was To Know W/o Removing. Would Like To Have The Correct Part In Hand Before Even Starting. (no Garage Or Driveway..have To Work In The Street)
OK I REALLY NEED HELP NOW!!! I LET TWO OTHERS WITNESSTHE PROBLEM I'M HAVING AND THEY THINK IT'S THE TRANS CASE. THE OPINION IS THAT THE TRANS CASE IS APPLYING POWER, ON A LIMITED BASIS, TO THE FRONT DRIVE, EVEN THOUGH IT'S IN 2H. THE ONLY THING I CAN THINK OF IS I HAD THE TRANS CASE FLUID CHANGED 6OMI AGO WITH ATF AND ADDED A SMALL AMOUNT OF LUCAS. I'M KICKING MYSELF ALREADY, BUT DOES ANYBODY THINK THAT THE LUCAS HAS ANYTHING TO DO WITH THE PROBLEM I'M HAVING? SEEMS ODD COINSIDERING THE MILAGE SINCE THE FLUID CHANGE. HELP!!!! ANY OPINION IS GREATLY APPRECIATED, SINCE A T-CASE REBUILD IS 1k. fLUID WILL BE CHANGED TOMMORROW!!!!!!
That is possible. I read that on a site.. to diagnose: drop your front drive shaft, and tie a piece of 10lb fishing line to the yoke ear, then tie the other end to a fixed spot. (frame or whatever isn't moving..). then drive it up the road in 2HI. if the fishing line is snapped, your tcase is sucking.... if not, it is probably yer hubs.. If your T-case is automatic, it might not be shifting back from 4HI to 2HI

I've had 2 sets of warn premiums and they don't seem to hold up very well. I just switched to the warn regular. A friend beats his regulars and has never had a problem. I just drove normally with the premiums and they just don't seem to last....just my experience.
it must just be my bad luck or something....i do like the plastic because they only go a quarter turn instead of all the way around. if these don't work out maybe i'll go back to ford....
