Hi i have a 292 in a f 700 1964 it has a stock 2bl on it , I have a 4 bl manifold
is it worth putting a 4 bl on ? I was thinking of a holley 465 . how much will i get in hp / torque, top end or will i lose torque ? hi from austraila
in that application i would think torque would be better than hp , other wise stick with the two bbl, my 2cs,bob
thank,s bob im think that to i want to keep my torque as this truck is a dump /tipper i have a mustang 2054 skidsteer goes in the back just look for a bit more up the hills , thank for your 2 cents worth bob
hi it rpm is 4400
I would use a 350cfm 2BBL. That engine will be happier, and you will get better mileage than with a 500cfm. I am running a 354cfm 2BBL 2150 carb on my 300-6, and it still pulls hard over 5,000rpm, so your engine, with a smaller volume per cylinder, should be more than happy with a similar size carb.
no to maxime effiency and power you need to go to a 4-barrel. Most people think that a 4-barrel pulls more fuel and gets worse mileage but that is not true. A bigger CFM carb only pulls in more air and most people report after putting a 4-barrel on that they got better mileage. Not to mention the increased power. Its all about airflow. Your engine will operate happier and mor effiecenly if it can intake the amount of air it requires. Adding headers sometimes helps with mileage too.
I agree with ford352v8, 4bbl carbs provide the best overall efficiency. More power with same or better mileage when your light on the gas. Also just adding a carb and intake to an engine with stock heads and cam isn't going to move the power range hardly any.
On a 292 in a truck that size I would have to say stick with the 2 barrel. I don't think you'll see any performance increase going to a 4 barrel. There is a formula for figuring the CFMs needed for an engine but I can't remember it. I am sure 350 cfm would be plenty for your combo.
