Good luck. I tried the charm thing...didn't work. Basically I stood in the dealership and started raising my voice about how all their mechanics must have learned everything from the Hooked On Phonics books and how my father, who isn't a mechanic, figured the problem out all on his own AFTER they charged me all that $$$ and it still was broken. Ha ha!!! They'll usually get you in an office to talk after that
Originally posted by altonm Well they fixed the cold start problem. They replaced the seals, about a dozen 2 inches in diameter between the intake and whatever. $607 and the check engine light came on again on the way home. My wife has taken charge as I want to give this guy a piece of my mind.
Maybe she can charm him.
altonm - What year is your Explorer and how many miles do you have on it? The warranty on the o-rings that your shop replaced has been extended by Ford to 6 years, 72K miles through ONP 00M12. Besides that, the price was $470 more than my local shop charged me to change the same o-rings a couple of years ago. Maybe the labor rates in your area are 4 times higher than they are here in Phoenix. If your Explorer is under the mileage limit, try submitting your bill to Ford for reimbursement. You will have to claim that it was an emergency repair since that is the only way Ford will reimburse for customer paid repairs after the date of the letter announcing the program in November 2000.
I had check engine light on , Truck would rev up and down and stall when first started, Took truck to auto zone to get free test from obd2 computer,
code was lean mixture faulty o2 sensor,
talked to my ford dealer, was informed that the intake o-rings were bad,
picked a set of upper and lower o-rings for 20 bucks, and 2 1/2 hrs of my time , all fixed runs great idle perfect, no check engine light
I have a '01 Sport Trac and the CEL has been on for a little over a week. I took it to Autozone yesterday and they said that the part in my truck that they use to "read" the codes was not working since they tried 2 scanners and got nothing at all. Did this happen to anyone? Any suggestions? I cannot stand my service dept and really do not want to take it there but without knowing what is causing the light to come on - I may not have a choice. Thanks!
CEL came on about 2 weeks ago, took my 02 Explorer to the Ford Dealer, had the diagnostic check ran on the computer, $49.99 later, they tell me they pulled two codes P1131 and P0401, and said I needed a O2 Sensor (downstream) DPFE sensor, and IAC valve, gave me a $650.00 estimate to do the work, YOU HAVE GOT TO BE KIDDING!!! Took it to Autozone they ran the code and pulled P1131, said it could be any one of the three parts the Ford Dealership had said, but found it hard to believe all three could go bad at one time.
I replaced the O2 sensor and DPFE for about $80.00 total and about 15 minutes of time, and cleaned the IAC total maybe 30 -45 min. Saved myself about $570.00. Reset my computer but now the CEL is back on, checked the EECV Error codes online and it says that code P1131 is "O2 Sensor - Upstream- Bank 1". Did this guy at the Ford Dealership tell me the wrong O2 sensor to change? Which one is Bank 1 Upstream? Is it the one on the passenger side upfront? I changed the one under the driverside door.
