So, the rear seal started leaking at 8,000 miles after the overhaul. I drop over $400 for that repair. Well, turns out that the seal wasn't leaking all that much. What was? The bolts were. Why? Cause the moron who overhauled my rig decided not to seal the threads. What could have taken him five minutes just cost me over $400. I wish I had never let him overhaul my truck. There have been so many things that I've had to "clean-up" since the overhaul.
Rule #335 in life: When the guy says ----> "I don't really like working on Fords", turn and run like hell. Oh, and don't let that so-called "mechanic" (who, it turns out, really isn't a trained mechanic) do the job. The guy has a machine shop and everyone said how great he is. Yeah, right. I have a feeling I may give him a piece or two of my mind if I ever see him.
Maybe you should post who it was on here. Someone else may be thinking of using the same guy.
I have a mechanic that I THOUGHT was giving me a great deal on a rebuild.
He gave me a junk engine. Was supposed to be: Adjustable timing set, new heads, new cam, new BEARINGS. and .010 over.
Harrumph. What I GOT was: Worn cam and main bearings, my old cam, my old timing set, cleaned up old heads, .060 (!!!) over, and what seems to be used pistons.
I wouldn't/won't post his name. I just hate getting ripped off. I wouldn't have gotten so mad, but it was a simple little thing that this guy could have done.
This is where the two ageless sayings come in:
1. Live and learn
2. If you want it done right, do it yourself.

Yeah, but I feel like my life is one of always learning and very little living! By the time I learn what they're doing, they've moved on to something else!

I got one of those "cheap" reman engines once and thought I was getting a deal. It was a 390 and it limped along for about 30K miles with numerous annoying bugs before it finally blew a head gasket and I had to go into it.
They used a re-ground cam for one thing... welded up the worn lobes and ground them back to spec... well, after 30K miles the lobes for the back 2 cylinders were round... I was getting no lift at the valves (I never could get it to idle right and quit missing.) I found lots of little things that weren't done correctly.
You get what you pay for... and if you want it done right, do it yourself.
o.k dude. Did you confront him about this? If you havn't yet you probably should. And he should be responsible for his mistakes. If I had my vehicle taken to do anything to it I would expect quality workmanship. Take it to him say either give me a break on what I paid or see you in court. But if it really isn't his fault then don't say that. lol.
So it was the bolts leaking oil which blew the motor because of low oil? I don't get it. Engine overhaul usually means rebuilding right?
1 in a milion... I disagree...
if he wants to come here and defned himself - fine...
I want his shop and his name so I don't have to learn a hard lesson !
Sorry - that's the way I feel - I agree anybody could post anythig about anybody...
but I would rather be "safe than sorry" jmh2cents !

No. The engine was in rough shape. I had it overhauled 8,000 miles ago. This week I had oil coming down from inside the bellhousing. My mechanic in town (the good guy) took it apart to do the rear main seal and found that the bolts were leaking more oil than the rear seal.
I won't confront him just 'cause the fact that he's my friends' uncle (mistake #1 of why I shouldn't have gone to him). Like I said, he has a machine shop and does combine and tractor engines and everyone said what a great guy he was.
When it comes time to do my car's engine, I'm gonna learn and do it myself. If something goes wrong, then it's my own fault.
