Are any of You running a non-dino oil in the 6.0.Heard Ford don't recommend it.If any of You are,are You pleased with the results?I am checking out a non-dino oil and leaning toward royal purple.Thank You for any input any one can give Me.
i have amsoil HDD 5w30 in mine. put it in at 15000(thats when i noticed it not using anymore oil). it used to smoke pretty bad on startup and while cold. now, no more smoke, ever. went from 15w40 and i noticed about 1-1.5mpg better and the turbo whistles really loud(spins faster) at idle( open exhaust), i assume from the lower friction in the bearings.
this is just my preference, and i dont want persecuted for it, guys!!!

Actually "louder" is more friction, a higher pitch whistle would be from the turbo spinning faster.......
You can check out this URL, and see if the Amsoil you are using is API certified:
im very sorry. i shouldve wrote "drag" instead of "friction." and i believe i said its from the turbo spinning faster(read- "more freely").
i dont care about what cute little design is on the bottle. API can keep their certification, i knoow it doesnt have one. it doesnt need it in my opinion.
if my engine scatters cuz of the oil in it, amsoil will remedy the situation, FREE OF CHARGE!! i have it in writing.
i have trusted amsoil for many years, and its in all i own(no, im not a dealer)right down to the TC-W3 synthetic two stroke oil in my lawn boy!!!!!
this is what i was talking about when i said, no persecution.
i choose amsoil, and i was simply stating my findings for the purpose of furthering the wealth of info on this forum.

Yes, I understood you to say spinning faster! My point, if it was spinning faster, then the whine would be a higher pitch (as in frequency). You said it was louder, and my point louder means more friction (or "drag" as you call it)

i think we r on the same page, just reading different paragraphs.
anyway, -a question i havent seen come up-, have any of u felt the difference between dino and syn? i mean between ur fingers. it feels different to me. stickier or something. the 5w30 actually is stringy when u pull apart ur fingers!! kinda neat. just thought id share.
Did we ever determine that the Mobil 1 Trcuk and SUV is the same stuff as the Mobil Delvac 1?
Yes, it is supposedly Delvac 1 repackaged. A guy on another Forum call and they confirmed it. It is a little hard to believe that they develope a completely new CI-4 rated oil. Still a little expensive for me.
My warehouse, (where I buy) knows nothing of it....weird
Tim
Where do you get your oil? As far as the Mobil SUV/Truck oil; on two other Forums this has been stated as fact for awhile now. Could not tell you first hand though. I thought this was old news.
