1956 MarkII, Hi Jeff wondering if you could help me with a question? When you are taxed on a vehicle are you taxed on the final negotiated price before rebates or after the rebates are applied? Thanks for any help
Since sales tax is a state tax, it can vary, but most states will tax the SELLING price, which is the price you've negotiated BEFORE rebates are figured in. Yes, that means you pay tax on the rebates, but if you think about it, it does make sense. It ensures that everyone pays the same sales tax, whether they take the rebate or low-interest-rate financing. Also, if you buy a bottle of vitamins that has a $2.00 mail-in rebate, you still pay tax on the full price of the vitamins; all you get back is $2.00, not 2 bucks plus the tax on the $2.00. No one ever thinks of that when it's just 2 dollars, but when it's 2 THOUSAND- now we pay attention.
If it were up to me, I'd eliminate all these rebates, lower the price accordingly, and then we'd all save on sales tax. Unfortunately, Bill Ford Jr. hasn't called for my opinions on how to run the company yet...
Hi Jeff i was wondering if you could answer this question for me. I currently live in Arkansas where i am stationed in the air force. I am a resident of New Hampshire where my truck is registered. Since NH does not have sales tax, if i bought a truck from you and registered it in NH, then would i not have to pay any sales tax? sorry if this is a common sense question, but i am still getting used to the sales tax thing. any help is greatly apreciated
If NH is your legal residence, and you have a current NH driver's license, then you can register the truck in NH and you won't have to pay any sales tax. You will pay whatever they charge to title/plate/register the vehicle, plus a $55 In-Transit Permit fee to get the truck from NY to NH.
