I have a 65 Sunbeam Tiger with a 260. What small block heads would give me better performance, hard valve seats, run on regular unleaded and have the same accessory bolting points. I would prefer not to swap the engine because of the cost of converting from the 5 bolt bell housing
i don't know if this helps a lot, but i used a set of 1977 302 heads on my '68 289. the holes for the alternator bracket were the same. i went to the '77s for the same reasons you are considering the swap. cost me a LOT less than having the 289 heads up dated with hardened seats, but that can be done as well.
Watch what head you choose. A 77 will drop your compression a fair amount. As for the best stock bolt on head I would have to go with the GT-40 head. Not the GT-40P head because the tiger is tight and getting headers for P heads may be difficult for your car. My second choice would be a set of E7TE heads or I think that is the correct first part of the number. A mild port job and you will be good to go. You will have to get new push rods with a late model head/non adjustable valve train.
