There should be a lower radiator hose, an upper radiator hose, and two heater core hoses.

What problem are you having?

don't forget about the tranny cooler lines comming off the radiator as well if it is automatic.you should be able to go into a parts store and buy the upper and lower hose preformed to fit proper for your truck.

I don't know about buying the heater hoses right off the shelf. Most of the time they have to know the size and also the lenght. I don't know anything about a diagram, and if I had a 5.0L, I would take some pics. I'll check around and see what I can find pman621 .

nightrain, i know you can't buy heater hose in premade peices but you can get upper and lower hose that way, infact your supposed to. Now pman621 for the heater hose routing, i am confused by what you said, but it should only be two hoses. and both go to the heater core, one takes the anti-freeze to the core and the other is the return. this why if you heater core goes out you can just take one of the hoses and bypass the heater core.

Yeah, I know that you can buy the radiator hoses premade. I was just letting him know on the heater core hoses so he's prepared if he has to buy new ones .

It sounds like the other engine had a heated intake manifold or carb plate - that's what the tee was for in the heater hose.

If you no longer have the heated manifold or carb plate, you can eliminate the tee and do the standard connection from the engine to the heater core.

Hi pman621,
I have a 1985 F-150 with the 5.0L engine. I also have some pictures of the engine that might be able to help you.

Rather than kill the page loading time, I'll post the pictures as links. I added red dashes to emphasize where the hoses are in a couple of the photos...probably overkill.

One of the heater hoses has a connection almost directly under the EGR and throttle body. This is indicated by the arrow in "Engine5.jpg".

Hope that helps!

I've got an 86 w/ a 5.0 that is all original.
There is a Tee in one of the heater hoses the has a small 5/8" dia. hose attached to it that leads to a connection on the Throttle body. The coolant then leave the throttle bottle at another connection and is connected to the lower intake manifold at the same place that the bypass hose is connected.

This was done to heat the intake air charge. These motors don't utilize an Air charge temperature sensor (ACT). Ford Engineers just opted to heat the intake. My guess is that this would cause a quicker warm-up when the air is cold. It probably resulted in lower emissions sooner during the engine warm-up. Similar idea to the preheater hose on a carbed engine that pulled air across the exhaust manifold before going to the carb during cold starts
