I have a 2003 V10 F250 with a little under 8,000 miles on it. I have the Banks PowerPack with the Ottomind chip.
Lately (since it has gotten warmer outside) the engine knocks/slaps/pings (not sure which) any time I accelerate, but not when it is idling or coasting. Also, sometimes when I first start it the engine will diesel or miss very bad. It gets to the point for about 1/2mile that if I floor the truck it will not accelerate, it will almost die.
I have tried taking out the Ottomind chip and sent it in to Banks to be inspected. That doesn't seem to have been the problem. Any other ideas?
I hate taking it to the dealership because of the lift and the Banks kit. Also, they always take about a week to be able to see it and then say that the problem is "normal". At least that was my experience with an out of balance driveshaft that was causing a vibration.
On something like this, is there a way that they would end up charging me to look at it if they felt it was because of the modifications?
Check your spark plugs maybe. I had those exact symptoms on a 97 4.6, checked the plugs and one was almost out and ready to launch. Might be worth a quick look.
Sounds like you need to find a different dealer. A week is insane. Had a Ford dealer keep one of our ambulances(2000 E350 w/7.3) for 6 weeks and never found what was wrong. Took it to a shop that just works on ambulances and they found the problem in 20min. no joke. How does the Banks sound? I plan on getting a Banks in about six months but want to hear it first. Any chance of posting a sound clip?
I took it in yesterday and dealt with a different guy this time. He was very helpful and we figured out that it was a loose header bolt. I had never heard an exhaust leak sound like that, but I guess so.
