Has anyone replaced the front seats in their Superduty? After a couple of hrs of driving i basically have to fall out of the truck.I am just wondering if there are some aftermarket seats that are comfortable.I 've looked at some aftermarket seats, but i am wondering how comfortable they are.Any particular brand?
i would like to know if the sweet lookin setup in the summit catalog fits an sd......for 1100 bux, thats a killer deal!
prolly as comfy as a denali setup.............very nice on the heini!
I removed the stock XL bench seat and installed Flexsteel Captains Chairs. Took me all of 1 hour and 2 pcs. of angle iron. Easiest seat swap I ever did. Much more comfortable then Ford bucket seats. I went with leather, heated and power lumbar with inboard armrests. If you leave the lower seat mount bolted to the floor, add 2 pieces of angle iron (1"x1") from side to side, you have a nice flat surface to bolt to. Mine looks stock installation.
It's my understanding that a seat is a seat. (ie) there is no Ford, Chevy, or Dodge seat manufacturers. A seat from a full size Dodge will fit a Chevy, will fit a Ford. I too have an XL bench and I have been shopping to replace it. Did a salvage search on the net, got back over 20 hits. The best seems to be the black leather consoled buckets from an Escalade for $245.00. Debating....
Yeah a seat is a seat, but the mounting hardware and stuff is different. If you can adapt an Escalde seat to your Super than great, good luck. I think It will be a pain in the butt to anyone but an expierenced fabricater.
Fabricating is part of the fun. You guys with newer trucks have more options for bolt in leather and power seats. I have a 79 F250. I won a set of leather Lincoln buckets out of a 97 LSC that I plan to retrofit -- I'm adding a bunch of modern mods, All Ford.
I thought the brackets would be the only challenge, but when I opened my boxes, I was suprised to find each seat is controlled by its own computer with a 36 pin wire harness. Yikes!!! There aren't 36 wires under the hood of the truck!!!
It will take some time, but I am sure I can make them work. In the meantime if anyone has access to Mark VIII schematics I'd love to see them.
OK, I dealt with a company in Oregon that shipped my seats to the Flexsteel warehouse in Vancouver, Washington. Real easy to deal with and the captains chairs have a 11"x14" flat base mount. With the bench seat, I left the 2 mounts that adapt the bench to the floor. I then ran 2 pcs. of angle iron across the cab from mount to mount and spaced them 11" apart. I'm removing the seats and all the mats in about 2 weeks to insulate the floor and install wiring for a sound system. I will then take plenty of pictures and set my gallery up. I also installed a Tuffy Security console and it fits perfect with the seats. Colors match perfect and when I had my truck in at the dealer for service last week, they wanted to know where they could purchase a setup like mine. The web site is: www.vehiclespecialty.com/ for the seats and I bought my console direct from Tuffy.
