i went to napa today for a headlight and found they have a new filter out that says "nascar select" and "spin flow" and some other b.s. its made by Wix tho, and they had a shelf full of them @ $3.33 a piece. i got a couple in FL1-A size. the diagram on the box says it filters better than brand x, but they all say that. i got napa gold before, cuz theyre made by Wix, but cost more. anyone heard of tests on this new one? at that price if they even match napa gold filters its a bargain
I couldnt find this new filter listed on NAPA's web site or WIX's site. Anyone find a link the specs of this thing?
I dont like the idea that WIX or NAPA maybe be selling a gimmick filter.
My napa dealer said that it is a cheeper media used in the NASCAR filter. I have known the guy for years at the FD so I beleve his info on this. I will stay with the napa gold.
Yea, I heard the NASCAR filter is a just a fancy looking NAPA Silver filter. YUK! So now we have 1 NAPA Gold, and 3 NAPA Silvers. Kinda makes you think only one filter can be WIX's best Filter.
Hey, it looks like a good filter to me. Constructed well, and with 3000 mile oil changes, who cares about 20 less sq" of filter media? I'm gonna start using 'em, they're $2 cheaper than the gold!
I've heard a lot about this new Nascar select oil filter as well recently from Napa. Since it's about time for an oil change in my wife's Escort GT commuter ride, I think I'll pick up a couple of these oil filters Saturday morning. Does anyone know offhand, what the NAPA part number is for the Nascar select that is equal to a Motorcraft FL400s filter? Also, my last oil change in my Aerostar XLT van (3.0v6) was with Mobil 1's 0w30 weight. I have never used it before, but I like it! The van runs great, and freeway mpg seems to have increased. I was getting an average of 16.1 (city-hwy.) and after checking it last weekend, it was 17.7 mpg. I had recently cleaned the throttle plate with some CRC spray designed for this, possibly that had something to do as well with the improved mileage. the only reason I tried the 0w30 (gray cap) Mobil 1 was because the Auto Zone was out of the normal 10w30 (green cap). Nothing annoys me like going in to Auto Zone on a Saturday morning at 11am and seeing the oil shelf empty, full of swiss cheese holes! Then the clerks are too lazy to check if you ask them for a specific oil. Bull. I can look behind the racks and see cases of various brand name oil waiting to stock. One more thing. Why does it bug me when I overhear a customer ask a AutoZoner clerk for "What kind of oil does my 20** V*$V^& (IUU&* use?" The clerk is clueless. They walk over to the oil rack, and begin to study each brand and weight like it's written in a foreign language. These people are experts? How do they get a job at a frigging auto parts store?!! Who hires these people? I cannot tell you how many times, after the clerk walks away, and I will tell the customer (usually an older man or lady) you might want to try this oil and weight in your brand new car, as opposed to the straight 40 weight non-detergent oil the brilliant parts professional recommended for your 2004 car. Gees!!! Anyway, I'll check out the new Napa oil filter...

Those chain stores do not pay above minimum wage for counter help. What do you expect? Anyone who knows anything about cars is going to work at a new car dealership for better hours, pay and benefits. My kid is going to Toyota technician school right now and she has multiple job offers long before graduation.
oil pressure, rods knocking you name it. i almost got sued the time i changed one guys oil and his pressure dropped all the way. I couldnt help it, thats the only brand filter they had for that piece of crap at 2 auto parts stores!! i ended up ordering it off the internet, payed $15 for overnight shipping for a $10 K&N filter. go figure

That’s why you don’t work on other peoples cars except for maybe close friends. Definitely not worth the trouble and it takes the fun out of working on cars.
