I just returned from OMA to DEN and got 13.5 mpg empty weight at 75 mile an hour but when I had it loaded with a ton of hay which was higher than the cab and I still did 75 miles an hour I only got 9.5 mpg. I'm wondering if this sounds normal to most PSD dually owners?
I have a 95 PSD 4x4 crew cab, long bed, dually 5 spd with a 4.10 rear end. I've only had this truck for a month and this was my first check on MPG.
LAST EDITED ON 27-Nov-00 AT 04:36 PM (EST)[p]Hey Trav. I have '95 F250 5 speed with 3:55 gears. Cruising 70 mph I get 19.5 - 21.5 MPG in a mixture of 40% surface roads and 60% interstate driving. The F350, 4X4 and 4:10 gearing on yours will affect the mileage but I do not know how much. I have seen claims of 21 mpg on an F350 dually and seen people who get only 11 - 12 mpg empty and considerably less loaded. I saw one guy with a Gear Vendors overdrive on a '99 f350 dually claim he got 25.6 at 70 mph but can't keep the speed down that low. Wide range, probably has to do with driving habits. I upshift at 2000 - 2100 rpm to keep it close to the torque peak. Hope this helps a bit - good luck and happy holidays.
'95 Power Stroke F250 extended cab long bed 5 spd 99% stock - why try to improve on perfection?
I have a '99 F-350 4X4 Quad Cab Dually longbox with the power stroke and 4:11's. I am averageing 17.8 mpg when I keep it under 65MPH. It will drop to 13-14 when I hit over 70. The ratio keeps the engine wound up pretty tight at the higher speeds.
With that load height and that axle ratio those figures sound totally right to me. I had a 95 F250 PSD 5 speed with a camper on it, about 1500lbs, and the best I would see is 11mpg.
