Stock Fog Lamps and Towing MPG

Fog Lamps. How do you turn them on. I have a new (to me) 2005 F-350 Crew Cab Long Box Dually King Ranch 6.0L with all the fixes, S/C Programmer, and a water filter system. 200,000 miles

How do you turn on the Fog lamps and what kind of towing MPG are you getting? My 28' 5th Wheel weighs under 7,000, and my 36 footer triple axel under 12,000.

This sure isn't my old '95 F-350 7.3L single axel XLT Crew Cab 4X4 Long Box.

What a ride.

For the fog lights you should be able to pull the switch out when in the headlight position.

Check your owners manual on Page 40. Download the Manual here if you didn't get one with the truck: http://www.fordservicecontent.com/Fo.../05f23og3e.pdf

And a double thank you. I didn't have an owners manual, and I didn't know that pulled out. I would never have found it. Now to get rid of the annoying chime when the drivers door is open.

If that was all I had to do it wouldn't be annoying. The dealer says it is something in the ignition thinks the key is still there. If I lift the tilt wheel all the way to the top it stops. I think it is the running boards wired into something they shouldn't be. It may think the lights are on when only the interior lights are on.

But if the drivers door is open (only the drivers Door) the chime is incessant. The Key is not in, and the lights (except interior and running boards) are off.

Sounds like you need a new clock spring that should solve you problem if it's dinging all the time. You can also pull the **** out to turn the fog lights on with the just parking lights as well if you ever feel the need.

And I'll bet you have a spare clock spring for sale too. Thanks. And now that I know the **** pulls out I have discovered it's capabilities. The big help was the Owners Manual. I need to see which way is "Free" on the hubs as there are no Lock/Free markings. Just scribed lines.

Welcome to FTE.
Do a search on the chime. Someone has post here before how to fix it.
2X on the clock spring in the switch.

No extra clock spring for you but free should be counter clockwise on both hubs you can turn the front driveshaft by hand to confirm they are unlocked if it spins freely your good.

Remove the steering column cover (three phillips screws from the bottom. There should be a black wire with a pink trace going to the connector in the ignition. Cut it, and no more dinging with the key is in the ignition. Wherever is shorting closed is in the circuit, that should cut the ground path for the key dinger and kill it.

+1.

I did this on my 06 XL. You don't even need to cut the wire. Just remove the lock assembly (easy) and dislodge the metal tab on that wire in the lock assembly. It is the key in wire. Wrap a piece of electrical tape around it and that's it. The chime will only work if you leave the headlights on and the low fuel alert.

Thanks. ..... Now as long as it isn't the Headlight circuit or the Low Fuel warning I should be good.

Lights on the running boards? Is that an aftermarket effect, or stock?
When are the running board lights on? Could they be backfeeding into the headlights?

Actually, it's not the headlights, but the amber marker lights that trigger the chime, as they can be on alone and they are always on with the headlights.

Are you not curious what is shorting? Seems like an electrical gremlin in the making.

I don't know if the running boards are stock on a King Ranch or not. But the lights are like curtesy lights at each end of the running board and come on when the door is opened. The chime should not sound when the curtesy light is on. Only headlights or running lights, and key should trigger the chime.. I checked and they are not on when the running (marker) lights are on. As I said previously, a dealer mech said it thinks the key is in the ignition.
