have 94 250 7.3 diesel with 117 k miles. has been great truck. lots of hard work hauling cows etc. two months ago started cutting out with loss of at least 1/2 power. check engine light would come on and in a few minutes would go back to normal. kind of disconcerting when hauling cows in mountains. have changed one injector, pcu, and cam position sensor. was ok for about six weeks and just started again. am going to put on daignostic computer in am. any ideas?????thanx wed
took truck in today. got email last night from KJNMANN(No Email Addresses In Posts!). he suggested that valve cover gasket which carries electrial lines was shorting. told dealer about this and they kind of laughed it off. put truck on computer and said i needed new injector($400). then when they took off valve cover to replace injector guess what????burned gasket at electrical connection!!!!!no need for new injector!!!!truck running like a dream....wanted to acknowledge kjnmann(No Email Addresses In Posts!) help...he obviouly knows his diesel trucks.....just to clarify trouble...truck would intermittenly lose approximately 1/2 power and check engine light would come one....would revert to normal after 30 seconds or so. would do this several times a day. mechanic says that glow plugs draw lots of amps and if connector on gasket is just a little off...will short and get hot etc....
Probably take a half a day, if you're kind of a rookie like I was. Getting the valve covers off and splicing the wiring takes some time, not hard, just takes a little while.
Glenn, I don't know nobody, I don't know somebody, maybe know anybody, but not sure on all...
