C6 difficult to rebuild?
'68 F100, rebuilding the motor as a 390 but won't be worth anything without doing the transmission as well. Right now it leaks and slips and the fluid smells bad. Debating on rebuilding it or purchasing a rebuilt unit. Any thoughts or recommedations?

I bought a c-6 rebuild kit from Summit Racing for $162.00 and a Haynes book titled, "Rebuilding Ford Automatic Transmissions", for about $15.00 at the parts house. I did, step-by-step, everything the book said replacing the old parts with new ones from the kit. That was about 4 years ago, my friend owns the truck now and even he hasn't had any problems with said tranny. Be warned...you'll need lots of brake cleaner if you don't have a parts washer. And pay close attention to the shape of the teeth along the edge of the clutch disks! If I could do it, you can...good luck!
