www.ponycarburetors.com sells one also, though I don't have personal experience with it (I'm about to rebuild one myself, and the kit I got from Schucks, sucks, to be honest. It's going back, unopened).
I consider the kit sucks because it doesn't have everything I need to rebuild the carb. I haven't opened the inside box, but I can see through the plastic what parts they gave me. It's missing the secondary pump diaphragm as the deal breaker, something I think would be a mandatory replacement item in a rebuild kit. Also looks to be absent the four brass things in the bottom of the two float bowls (think they're the jets), probably not necessary to replace, but I also saw that wasn't in the kit. I'm definitely not a rocket scientist, but I'm also not Macgyver, and don't have the skill to make these. ;-)
I brought the carb in on Saturday to my nearest Schuck's and they didn't have the kit in stock, but another (three miles further) did, so I'm sure this is the kit intended for my carb (instruction's picture is definitely a 4100). Because of goofy bus schedules and this being my only vehicle, I walked home (total 4 miles) from that other Schuck's Sunday with the kit, only to see it missing the diaphragm when I started the rebuild. So, I think I'm probably not being totally objective here. ;-)
I have had lots of good service on prior occasions at Schuck's. I'm not trying to dis them, it just seems a given that you'd include the rubbery parts of a carb in a rebuild. Maybe someone can correct me if this assumption is invalid. My secondary diaphragm DEFINITELY looks like it needs replacing, so the kit I physically possess won't work for me.
The kit cost me $26 at Schuck's. If I take it back and see that I did indeed get the wrong kit, I'll happily accept another that has what I need. Otherwise, I'm shopping elsewhere.
mar9999, jets don't come in rebuild kits. They never have.
The secondary diapraghm should be there. Are you sure you got the right kit? You may have gotten one for a 2 barrel, or a mechanical secondary.
You may have also been sold a carb tuneup kit instead of a rebuild kit.
As far as Schuck's, it's the person behind the counter that makes the difference. As in most parts houses, you always get some kid straight out of high school who knows nothing about cars and can barely look anything up. I quit doing business with them for that very reason.
I buy all my parts at NAPA now. Better quality, and not very much more expensive. A parts man behind the counter, and my local store has a secret policy of always matching Schuck's price.
Parts man here. Most, if not all, carb rebuild kits DO NOT have the secondary diaphragm in them. I think they should but I haven't seen it yet. Jets never come in a kit. You will need to find the diaphragm alone. I think NAPA has them available, not sure if others do.
I took the kit back to Schuck's. The picture of the carb in that kit was for a four-barrel, and Schuck's thought they were giving me the right kit. Maybe it was a repair instead of a rebuild, didn't notice the nomenclature.
Went to Action Auto, and got a rebuild kit WITH 2nd diaphragm, for $5 less! I am a happy camper!! I'm cleaning it up, and will hopefully have it ready for reinstall by Saturday.
The staff of the place do indeed make or break a parts store. The help I got from Action was total customer service. They made a big impression on me! Don't think it was actually poor help at Schuck's, think it's just some bad info in their books that led me to the wrong kit.
I'm curious--what brand of kit? I have sold Borg-Warner, Standard Moter Products and looked at many Echlin kits and don't remember ever seeing the secondary diaphragm!! So I have learned something.
