Hey fellas,
I recently bought a 2001 PSD crewcab.
I just installed a Volant intake that replaced the complete airbox & uses a huge cone type air filter. System installed easily & fit well.
I now get A LOT of intake noise. You can almost hear the turbo swooshing & blowing off excess pressure.
It does not bother me, I can live with it.
What bothers me is that the truck does not have that "seat of the pant" more power feeling.
I wonder if the truck is actually trying to suck more air in than the new intake can handle and that is where all the noise is coming from?
I thought anything would be better than a stock set-up.
Your thoughts &/or suggestions are appreciatted, please do not start a talk down war.
BTW, I have gauges, exhaust, Predator coming soon.
Later!

JDracer.. Just a question about previous vechiles you've owned.. Have you owned a diesel with a turbo before.. The trubo whistling noise is quite loud.. Now with the "seat of the pants" action that you want I don't really know much about what to tell you... Also witht he new intake and all componets might not match... But thats just a suggestion..
Yes, this is my first PSD.
But, I did drive the truck for about 5k miles before I started w/ mods.
So I am a little familiar with the "everyday sounds" of the truck.
BTW, this intake is the only mod on the truck, for now. ;-)

I thought you needed Chips (not Ruffles), Intake, 4" Exhaust, Propane and more modifications to get that "Seat of the pants" feeling. Not just an intake like you and I have.
an after market intake will flow quite a bit more air than the stock one. the stock unit is made to be quiet and is restrictive. the sound you are hearing is the higher volume of air being sucked into the engine. an aftermarket intake will help out most down the road with other mods.you will not feel a "seat-of -the-pants" power increase with just a new intake
I did not expect a huge performance gain.
I just wanted to make sure my truck will not turn blue from lack of air.
Also, I know that all the mods together are what will make all the power.
But, I am a firm believer of one mod at a time.
That way I can tell what causes a problem if any.

smart move getting the intake, however alone it will do little for performance. While you are accessing considerably more air volume, without a chip or programmer, you are not really adding anymore fuel, so the extra air is useless without fuel. Get a chip, programmer, propane or something that will make use of the extra air and then you will notice an awesome difference in performance. Exhaust is a necessary evil when upgrading for power as well. I say 4" turbo back, but it is debatable on the size..
