Not sure if there is any milage requirment. I've heard a good way to check is to look on the ribbed side of the belt and if there are 10 or more cracks per square inch it's time for a change. I genereally just check it and if it looks like its getting dry and cracked I change it. Like you said, don't want to wait till it breaks.
And if your belt shows any off center wear, change the belt tensioner too. It will allow your belt to last longer and not wear out on one side and break. I changed my first belt at 70k due to uneven wear, replaced the tensioner too. Now at 130k I still have a good belt and tensioner, but a new belt and tensioner are on hand! Just in case!
Thanks Grinch, I have 70k on mine now that's why I was asking. Wear still looks okay but maybe I'll go ahead on everyone's advice and change it anyway and keep the original for a spare. Any idea who makes the best belts?? Any testing done??
Thanks again everyone!
I just used another motorcraft. I know it will go at least 70k without breaking. Who knows about other belts you get the warraty with but they break at the worst time. You know...Just cleaned out the truck, forgot to but the parts back in...

While on the subject, the belt tensioner ought to be wiggled once in a while to see if its bearing is going bad. At about 70K mine went and threw the roller.I've heard that's common. I was lucky, it didn't take out the radiator too.
