I have a 96 Eddie Bauer Explorer with the blower not working started with blower only blowing on high now blower not working at all. I hear it may be a resistor but dont know where to look to it or how to test any input would be appreciated.
THANKS!!!

The blower resisitor is either under the hood or most likely under the dash on the passenger side. It plugs into the plastic air duct with 4 or 5 wires attached. Get a new one (about 20 bucks) so you know what you are looking for.
If I had a 96 Explorer I would also have the Ford electrical troubleshooting manual for it & could tell you for sure. But yes this does sound like a bad blower resistor. Napa or Autozone will have it & it's probably a simple swap. Good luck with it.
Yeah, for this sort of thing Haynes/Chiltons are pretty much useless. If you want to be ready to go for your next electrical problem, go here www.helminc.com & order the Ford electrical troubleshooting manual. I have these for my 87 Ranger & 95 Taurus & they have saved me a lot more than what I paid for them.
If your Eddie Bauer has the EATC, then it's not the resistor, but it's the blower motor controller. I had the exact same problem a week ago and went to the dealer and bought the resistor, it didn't fit. Then the guy at the dealer parts counter said that there's a controller instead of the resistor for the blower motor. So instead of a $15 resistor, it's a $120 blower motor controller. I posted a pic of where it is on the EF boards.
Billy, after reading your post I took a look at the ETM for my 95 Taurus & its the same setup. The manual system gets the resistor the auto climate gets the high $$$$ controller. Interesting.
You are correct this I found out this dealer only part at my Dealer in Central Florida is $140. alot more than the risistor I went to buy for $18. Let me ask you a Question, 96explorereddieb, so I can feel more confident about ordering this non- returnalble electrical part. The problem you were having was it like mine. Some times blower will not work at all and when it does it only blows on high.
I had the same symptoms when I had the problem. It would work one day and it wouldn't the next and then it would work for a couple of days, then stopped until last week. I replaced the controller and everything works again. Good luck!
The final out come was a 2 part problem, The blower motor its self was bad and the Blower controller module. I paid $40 for a aftermarket Blower motor and $140 for the blower motor control module. $180 total Now everything is working perfectly.
The control module was responsable for the motor blowing on high all of the time.
The Blower motor was causing the no fan at all portion.
Thanks again for everyones help.
Blower control module 95, 96, 97 EB Explorer with EATC
I have a 96 EB Explorer. I have read through the postings about replacing the control module on the blower motor.
Does anyone have information on actually testing this unit?
Many posts say theirs blows high only. Mine won't blow at all. It had previously been coming on if it wanted to. Now, it does not seem to want to. The $118.12+ is okay if it fixes the problem. I do not think they will take it back if it does not fix the problem.
