Shake,Rattle and Roll
Have a question i'm hoping i can find some answers to. I just purchased a 99 F250 Superduty and i love the truck. Only thing is when i first leave after the truck has sat for awhile the motor starts to rattle like someone through a handfull of rocks into the valvetrain. Not right off the start but within the first couple of miles. It does it for about 10-20 seconds than smoothes back out again like nothing happened. The truck has 140000 miles on it and is in very good shape so i'm sure the previous owner looked after it. Also after sitting for overnight or all day at work i have to roll it over and give it some throttle to get it to start. The glowplug relay is fine so i think it might need glowplugs. Anyways any help would be appreciated. Thanks Lance

I don't know much about the PSD fuel system but I have seen check valves go bad in other diesels and the fuel pump will leak down over time. a couple of burps and now there's air in the fuel system. It gives the same symptoms as you describe. I'd bet that after the 10-20 seconds passes, if you shut it off, it will restart fine for the next couple of hours, but the longer it sits the worse it gets.
