I am still using my regular TI 83 (not the plus version) that I bought in 98 and I still use it to this day, it has worked well for me in all my engineering coruses. I have also used the newer TI's on and off, but I always end up using the 83.
If you decide to get a TI graphing calc, I would reccomend getting the software and link kit that will allow you to hookup the calculator to your PC. It definately makes it a lot easier to write out your own programs on a key board vs the calculator keys.
For Algebra and Calc. the TI-83+ will do everything that you need it too. I used mine all through both of those, and various Physics classes. I also have an 89, but for what you will be doing, there is no need for the 89
i have an 86 and an 89. The 89 will do most anyhting. I used the 86 through most of college and got the 89 the last year. I took the EIT/FE exam and like mentioned before, cant use either one of them for it now though. Helped for classes alot. Our teachers didnt check memory so we used it alot.
