First oil change question

Good evening gents,

After reading a bunch of posts on oil in the psd. I was wondering if this was correct for my truck.

Took my pride and joy in for a first oil change and noticed that the dealership used a "Castrol" sticker on my windshield. Pardon my ignorance but is Castrol on par with Motorcraft, the same or what? Also noticed that the recommended 2nd oil change (as noted on the sticker) was only 3000 miles from my first. Do you think they had a new guy work on my truck and confuse it with a gasser?

thanks

If he put the wrong oil in your truck, you won't make it to the next oil change. A new engine will be heading your way. as far as I know Castrol doen not make any products for Diesels. Lets hope it's a sticker they get for free. I would go back and ask. Next oil change, Do it yourself! it's Not a big deal.

Castrol does make API CI-4 oils for diesels. It's called Castrol RX 15-40. They also have a line, Castrol HDL Tection Extra for fleet vehicles. The RX is available at Walmart and the HDL Tection is available through the local jobbers.

I would certainly go back NOW and ask. This is exactly why I change my own. The dealer puts the less experienced personnel doing things like changing oil.

Get a Fumoto valve http://www.fumotovalve.com. You won't spill a drop and change it your self. Do a search. Instructions on changing oil has been posted here and is in your owner manual.

OK that is it I am going for a new set of fingers, probably keep my middle ones, they have served me well so far.

Typing 2000 words a minute is not easy, it is even harder to comprehend/decipher sometimes.

I know this has been asked somewhere before but I'm to lazy to look so here goes....
Why do these motors come from the factory with 10-30w in them but Ford says to use 15-40w? The closer the viscosity range the better (holds up longer, no?) so wouldn't 10-30w be the way to go? Things that make you go hmmm...

Ok you can beat me now...

i dont know if this has anything to with it, but my service guy said that ford uses heavier oil for break in purposes, after that its supposed to be lighter. is 10-30 heavier than 15-40?

yup. 10 is lower than 15. Startup with engine cold is the concern.
