Fluid Specs for Rear Axle

Having the shudder action going on. Going to change the fluid in the rear end needing to know what type of fluid to use. I know I have to use Frictin mod.

Hi Scott,

According to my book...

97-02 Expy Differential Lubricant:

Front - Use SAE 75W-90 GL-5 gear lubricant
Rear - Use SAE 75W-140 GL-5 synthetic gear lubricant* **

* Add 4 oz. of friction modifier to 8.8" andd 9.75" inch rear axles, or
** Add 8 oz. of friction modifier to 10.25" rear axles w/lube change.

Thank guys for the responses... Has anybody done this job if so once the rear axle is put back on is there a plug to fill it up or do go through the breather cap like on the 8.8 mustang?

You should have a filler plug, use a 3/8" ratchet or breaker bar to remove - use your finger as a "dipstick" to check the level. (Be sure to drive the vehicle first to warm the fluid so it will drain more easily and completely).
