I did some research after your post and gues what I found. Kansas ammended the law. It is illegal to leave your car running unattended unless it is equiped with a remote starter.
Here is what and why.
State law says it is still illegal to leave a running car unattended, unless it is equipped with a remote starter.State Sen. Les Donovan, R-Wichita, chairman of the Transportation Committee and owner of a car dealership pointed out that legislators changed the state law to accommodate a Kansas City car manufacturing plant, which is producing Chevrolets with optional factory-installed remote starters.
Ya, I could understand not leaving a car w/out some kind of kill switch for a saftey reason. I think that could even be true up here, but i'm not sure. Glad you found out ya can.
I have a crimestopper rs900 on my 1999 ford f350 diesel and love it, I thought about hooking up the aux button to the windshield washer switch so that I could trigger the washer/wiper circuit on those frosty mornings in the north. Does anyone know which wire in the steering wheel harness is used for this ? Thanks, Mike
By the way, I use the 10 second timer function for letting the glow plugs get warm before starting and I hooked up the tach sense wire to the crank position sensor (green wire) , works great every time, always starts on the first time.
i have a command start remote starter, and the timer is set for 30 sec for the glow plugs, engine warm or not, seems to work fine, i got it hooked up to the door locks too.
Fordborn, i was at the gas station one night and the Sherif came inside and asked me if it was my truck outside. "we need to talk"....yeah, i could see it the whole time, BIG glass windows at the station, all lit up. luckily he just told me to not do it again. i never knew that law existed in Texas....hehe, i still remember it "its against the law to leave your vehicle running unatended"....me:"huh? it is??" yeah....lots of fun....need to do some research on that one though
Whichever brand you go with make sure it has a glow plug SENSOR in it and not just a timer. The cheaper varieties use a timer before they try to turn the motor over, doesn't matter if its cold or hot...same time. Someone above mention the Viper (DEI), it has a sensor in it, it waits for your glow plug light to go off before starting. It also is very programmable, you can pick between lenghts of time before shut down (so if you forgot you started the truck it will shut down after X minutes), they can set RPMS to disengage the starter, 1000 foot range which is very nice when I'm on the 4th floor of a concrete building and I can start my truck thats 100 yrds away, ...
Ya, the Viper is a nice one. Its got the sensor for the wait to start light, but you can also program it to start your truck up for you every 3, 6, 9 hours too. So if your in a place where its very cold you can keep your truck as warm as possible. Or you can have it do that if your would rather not use the truck everyday, but still would like to start it from time to time. THe Viper also comes so you can have your door locks on it, and the other button can be used for anything from rolling your windows up and down to whatever you can think of. Its also has a function on it that allows you to decide how much of the alarm is set... That way if you want to leave the doors unlocked so you can get in and out (tailgating or something) you can still have the tumbler alarm set and what have ya... There's like 5 different stages...
I think I am going to hook up the extra button to operate my windshield washer switch in case I have frosted windshield in the morning, that way I will know I will have a clean windshield when I get in the truck in the early morning ( I leave for work at 4:30 AM). Does anyone know which wire comes from the washer switch ?? If not I will find it using my meter to find it. Thanks, Mike
I would appreciate it very much ! It is a 1999 ford F350 dually diesel ! Thanks again ! I would like to tap into the wire under the driver's side kick panel if possible. Thanks, Mike
reserected, if you also know where the horn honk wire is(OEM HORN), I think it is the yellow/green wire in the air bag harness, but I am not sure where that location is, not that I want my horn to honk everytime I lock/unlock my door or remote start my truck, especially at 4:30 AM in the morning, but I was just curious to where it was located.
Quick question.
After you remote start your truck and go get in it, do you just put the key in it and turn it to run or do you have to do something different?
Yep, get in and turn the key to the on position, short of engaging the starter. It has many built in safety's as well, if your truck was unlocked and you remote start, it will start but if someone gets in and hits the brake or tries to move the shift lever the truck will shut down, if someone tries to open the hood it will shutdown ...
Another cool thing is say you want to make a quick stop and don't want to shut your truck down, you can pull up, put it in park, hit your two remote start buttons, the lights will flash and you can take the key out, lock the doors if you want and let your truck continue to warm up or simply save the wear and tear of starting a diesel for those couple minute quicky-mart runs.
reserected, did you ever find out that wire color I needed for the windshield washer wire ? Also still need the exact location for the horn honk wire, it says it is in the air bag wire harness wherever that is. Any help would be appreciated, Mike

I'm trying to find a remote start with delay any ideas on where I can find one?
