Biggest tire size without leveling kit

I wanted to put 305/55/20 nitto terra grapplers on my 2004 4X4 lariat. I did not want to put the leveling kit on the front on my truck. Does anyone know if this would work without rubbing?

Well if i dont get an answer soon, I'll just have to experiment myself. I seen a couple of trucks on this site with those tires. I thought someone would know.

give it a day or so before you start experimenting, you might get lucky and someone will reply.... I talked to a dealer and they dont even know their name let alone what size tire will fit. I also tried going to two different tire places.....different answers, I even went to an offroad place and they were not "quite sure"....so good luck to you!

Patuca, you have any pics of that? I too am interested in going to a larger size tire for my ordered lariat, possibly 285/60/18s but don't want to raise the front. In fact, I would prefer to lower the rear to level it off. Thoughts?

That's a 33" tire - you shouldn't have any problems. I've seen a gew galleries with this tire size.

What about on a 4x2 Lariat SuperCrew? The stock tires are 265/60/18.

What are the biggest tires that can be put on the stock wheels? And here's another stupid question, can 20" wheels be used without any mods?

I have put on a set of 305/55/20 and they did NOT rub. Later I put the leveling kit on because I liked the looks. BUT, I have an XLT and it comes without fender flares. A friend of mine has the same tires on his Lariat and they DID rub, but not after the leveling kit was installed.

Im surprised that the flares make that big of difference. They couldnt be more than half an inch wide. What kind of wheels did you use and your friend? Does it rub when you turn all the way?

It was catching the inside of the flare where they attach to the fender.
The difference could have been just a matter of the wheel back space.
But thats just a guess, cuz I'm not sure what the measurements are...
it appeared that his back space was more than mine...as in the lug nuts
we more flush with the outside of the wheel than mine...therefore having more tire
inside of the wheel well.

williamson-
sorry i haven't yet put any pics up in my gallery....been meaning to do that. i'm still pondering lifting the front end to level things out. as for lowering the rear end...if you want to, go for it! it's your truck!

the only issues, well asthetically speaking, i see with leveling the truck...front or rear....are what's going to happen when you're towing or hauling a heavy load. if it's level without a trailer/load....will it sit nose up with a trailer hooked up or a load in the bed? i suppose you could always level it out and beef the rear suspension up a bit so there is no sagging under weight.....

Or put some type of air suspension on the back so that you can adjust it when needed (as someone else mentioned in another thread).
