Tri-Y Headers

Havn't seen this topic here yet so I thought I would bring it up. I saw in last month's edition of Off-Road Adventures that Tri-Y Headers will give better power in the low and middle ranges than shorty or long tube headers (don;t kill me if I stated that wrong). But this got me interested in investing in some Tri-Y Headers, If I could find them for a 90. What do ya'll think of them?

i didnt think they had tri-y for small block fords, just the 460. plus being longtube headers you run into fitment issues with the frame and being in harms way when you wheel because they hang much lower .

I did a search for them and they have them up 87 I believe. It was a small guy who manufactures them not a gibson or somebody. It said on his site Ford 302-351 F150 and Bronco

I don't know if there will be clearence issues though because I have a 90 and it says up to 87. Also I have a remaned motor, shouldn't make a difference but I guess I'll have to call and see.

it probably will not have the aplication for the EGR valve, its not a big deal though, check ebay, there are a few EGR cheater connectors that let you disconnect it without future harm to your motor, or you could have someone weld a bung into the #1 cylinder pipe so you can still hook it up, other than that, you need to make shure you have clearance between your driveshaft and the header, thats the issue that keeps alot of people away from long tubes, i tryed to run longtubes but i just gave up on the hasle due to them not being emissions legal(thus the reason they dont have alot of stuf like EGR hookups, dont ask why there not legal, its beond me, i doubt most places would fail you)

keep in mind that different types of headers aren't going to make a huge difference on an otherwise stock setup. There will be a noticeable difference going from stock manifolds to headers, but unless you're moving massive amounts of air, shorties anre going to feel about the same as long-tubes, and tri-y's are going to feel like equal-lengths, etc. The best idea (IMHO) when it comes to putting headers on a stock engine is to get ceramic coated or thermal-wrapped ones. This lowers underhood temps pretty drastically, and this gives additional benefits. I like the bassani 'optimum length' ceramics myself. That's what I"ll be getting once I get my intake and TB setup. I'm not going to spend any money on headers till I am moving enough air to warrant them.

How about Doug Thorley's Tri-Y headers? I'm not sure if they make them for your application, they have them for the 351's of that year Bronco. I had them before on a rig and really liked them. They are 50 state smog legal and they offer ceramic coating too.
