I was driving in a moderate rain storm running about 60 mph and accelerated to pass another vehicle. Halfway around them I heard a loud bang and lost most of my power went away. I pulled over to check the turbo and air filter(what a pain in the rear) there was a whining sound comming from the turbo. The air filter had a small amount of water in the front. I don't think there was enough water to cause any harm. I limped in to the Ford dealer and they said it sounded like the turbo was hung open. Later this afternoon I learned from the dealer the turbo had failed.
Usually a loud bang is associated with one of the hoses coming loose from the pressure side of the turbo and is easily fixed. You comfortable with the dealer?

Sure makes you wonder..................sounds like a hose
Just had that exact problem with the loud bang and loss of power and it was the hose between the turbo and the intercooler. I did notice that yesterday at a traffic light it started to get a strange pulsation from the engine so I reved it and it went away. I hope my turbo isn't going south on me.

Try to remember any time you get one of those "weird" burps..........turn it off and try re-starting.............it works.
I found this site about 1 hour after my problem started. Thanks to you guys I called the service manager and asked him if they checked the hose to the turbo. He assured me they did. Also asked about the bearing problem. He hadn't heard of or acknowledged this as a problem.

Thanks for the Information.
That is not surprising, we are many he is only one.
If it isn't your hose then look on the passenger side at the intercooler, see if you have a orange gasket poking out. I've blown two intercoolers off of my truck, and one hose torn in half. Then have them hook up there computer to your truck and go for a drive. See if your turbo is putting out to much boost? Might have bad turbo. Thats what my major problem was.

I blew the entire end off my intercooler 32 miles form nowhere on my last pull.
Went at 15lbs. Drove it on in and they replaced it.
No big deal just a bit slow going, watched EGTs real close.
