Turbo Drone?
Turbo Drone?
I Recently Bought An 05 F350 With A 6.0 Power Stroke Turbo. The Turbo Or Exhaust Makes A Noise That Sounds Like A Bomb Falling During Deceleration. Is This Turbo Drone? What Can I Do To Stop It?
No. Turbo drone is heard when driving on the highway at a constant speed and usually only occurs on trucks that have been straight piped, meaning, no cat or muffler.
What you're hearing, most likely, is the turbo spooling down. Only way to stop it is to go faster and not slow down.

If you are into the trottle pretty hard and let off suddenly, you will get the "turbo fart". It happens because there is no waste gate on the turbo for the access pressure to be relieved through, and appears to be a common thing on the 6.0L engines. However, some of the techs on here say if it is happening a lot, the vanes in your turbo could be stuck, and you should have it looked at by a diesel mechanic.
