I did a replacement on my 97' psd and it took me about 2hr. That included new hoses. When I installed my waterpump I also installed a 203 degree thermostat. I did notice a difference in my truck it just seems to run smoother. A little helpful hint if you do install a new thermostat with the waterpump the factory temp gauge reading will be different. I got a little nervious when my gauge didn't stop at its normal resting place, then it dawn on me about the thermostat.

tell them you want $40 an hour at Ford House time, that should be 2 weeks right? Sorry I couldn't help it. A water pump with flush and no other parts needed should take about 1.5 hours. I do not know exactly what chilton time is.

-Maybe I'm slow or I went about it the wrong way but I think it took me more like 3 hours. Seems like the battery and tray had to come out (drivers side) then the radiator (disconnect and plug trans lines and coolant hoses). Fan shroud didn't come out real easy either. In fact I think I just decided to leave it in and work around it. Anyway, it wasn't a walk in the park.

If it were me I would let them fix it.

I agree, let them do it even if it does take longer. This water pump is a $%*&( to get it to seal right and I would rather have them deal with it.

It was already replaced and they did not seal it correctly. I have been a tech for many years (not ford). And I feel much more confident in my skills then some side shop tring to make a buck. But I appreciate the advise. Any tips on sealing the pump to the block.

I have a 2000. Anyone know what the oem thermostat temp is? I have been thinking of putting the 203 in, and try it. Like probably most of you, I notice mine sounds the best and runs the best when it is at max temp. Sounds like from you guys that it would do even better at 203.

Yep, a man after my own heart, here. I professionally did it for a living several years ( yes, even Ford dealerships ) and even though I hate to crawl under / over them now, I just can't stand the risk of someone else touching my rig and not as focused on all possibilities as I am in taking care of my own.

I'm not real sure but I think you have a 185 degree. In-town I noticed a big difference after switching to the 203. I believe the only place you can get them is at the Dieselsite.com. I was told that the true efficiency range on these trucks were between 195-210 degree. After installation and installing one on a friends truck we both agree. There is alot of mods out there but I really like how this part impacted the truck especially for the price.
