I own a 97 F-350 crew cab 4x4 PSD and i was wanting to take the catalytic converter off and run straight pipes on it and i was wondering if that would have any negative effects on my truck? I heard that it increases power and MPG. Thanks
Do it! Here is a sound clip from my '95 under hard acceleration.

There are 2 drawbacks, people assume your lying when you tell them what your fuel milage is and the EBP valve really screams when it is engaged. On the plus side the pryometer runs about 100 degrees cooler under a load, it has improved acceleration and you'll lose the disgusting sweet smell from the cat.
What year did they start putting cat's on diesels mine is a '90 and I never heard of a cat on a diesel. Maybe in GOOD OL California, where they restrict so much that now they are short of electric power. PHIL
Do it!!! I have two 3.5" straight pipes coming off 2 cherry bombs on my '89 7.3L and she sounds great. very shortly i will have 4' dual chrome stacks on her and she will sound better. good luck
