I recently bought a 1970 half cab. I have been working out a few little bugs and I am having a bit of trouble finding parts for it. I usually get the wrong part at least 2 times before I get the right one, or find out that the correct part must be ordered. My bronco has a 170 in line 6, Does anyone know if this engine was less popular than the 302? Were there less of the 170s made? And what other kinds of Fords had the 170? Thanks for any info you can provide.
170 was not rare until everyone pulled them out and put in a 302. Falcons/rancheros and mustangs ran the little 6 for several years before the bronco. Parts are still available but you have to tell people what you have, and make sure they understand. I have an early '66 which has alot of unique differences and I make sure they know before I order. Jeffs Bronco Graveyard, and Toms Bronco parts are good for restoration parts. Alot of the bronco places say they have parts but when you try to get stock parts they have a problem. Good luck surf the web. ebay occasionally has engines and parts. Also look at sites like bronco.com and broncofix.com. You've just entered a new world, and Early Bronco owners are there own breed.
The 170 is a good engine and moves the light body Bronco pretty good.It was just that in the 60s and early 70s that you had to have a V-8,or so was the thought till the gas shortage in 73-74.With gas going $2 plus keep that good gas milage engine. Also that half cab is hard to find too.Check out this link..I have had good luck buying from him.http://www.broncoconnection.net/index.htm.Only complaint I have with him is slow shipping.Good luck
