Have a squeek in my right front part of my dash ,sounds like it is near window or close to door. I have a 1996 4 dr. Exp. Have tried several things trying to find it , any ideas. Driving me BATTY.
The easiest way to find the source is to ask your front passenger to press dashboard parts and interior trim panels while car is moving. Continue untill squeeking stops. So you'll find the source.
The next step is to fix the problem. It could be loose screws or worn pin-pushes or broken trim, whatever. You'll find the answer quikly once you get to the source of noise.
thanks yuri, I have gotten over there & pushed & pulled on everything that I can think of while the wife was driving & I can't find it anywhere. I thought it was in the glove box ,but it wasn't.
I remember I got some sort of squeaking from passenger side on my 93' Ex. It was exterior door handle, the spring (that holds the handle) was missing and the handle was rocking and squeaking. But this is probably not your case.
And as I can remember, it also might be the shock absorber (it could make creaking sound if it is leaking) or suspension spring. On my BMW the rear spring was constantly squeaking on low speads when its "pig-tail" was broken-off.
So if you can not locate the sound from inside, try to search it from outside. It might be suspension sound or maybe exterior trim. Ask your wife to drive slowly (prefferably on bumpy surface) while you're hearing the sounds.
I agree, the squeek may be on the outside and just carrying through the vehicle making it sound as if it is on the inside. You might want to tap on your tire with a rubber mallet and see if you can hear it on the outside as well. You could also take the glove box and kick panel off on that side and then have someone drive it while you try to locate the source. Just a thought.
