Installed new cam, lifters, roller rockers, valve springs in 351w. Cam is a extreme energy 262 by comp cams. I have a squeek that I cant find starts at 3000 rpm and get louder as you decrease idle, and quits at idel. I took off belt and its still does it. Could I have gotten bad rockers and it the rollers squeeking? What could this be? Also headers are getting red hot what causes this my timing is at 6 deg btc. Thanks for you input.
Do you only have one belt? Does your engine have any idler pulleys on it? Dont forget your A/C Compressor's pulley has an idler pulley bearing in it.
Alternators, Water Pumps, and idler pulley bearings will pick the craziest of times to bo bad: after disturbing them during a cam swap/engine build-whatever, the alternator, water pump, and Idler Pulley Bearings will sometimes decide to give up the ghost(?).
Disconnect ALL belts-then turn both the alt & water pump by hand. You will want to notice any friction while turning their pulleys by hand.
While ALL of the belts are off you may wish to start it up and listen for a few seconds: not to be ran more than 20-30 seconds at a time. If you still hear the noise then your problem is not w/your belts or accessories.
If the timing is retarded to the point the combustion process isn't completed when the exhaust opens, the squeek you hear might be those gasses escaping into the exhaust. It would also cause the headers to get excessively hot.
